Sustainability Policy

Contributing to a more sustainable future

This policy, together with FMV's Work Environment Policy and Ethics Policy, constitute the authority's main commitments within the three dimensions of sustainability: environmental, social and economic.

FMV deliver the right materiel for a stronger defence. We achieve this by providing defence equipment and services for the needs of the Swedish defence forces - in peace, crisis and war. In the long run, FMV's work contributes to Sweden's remaining a peaceful and democratic state, governed by the rule of law.

FMV's sustainability work is based on the United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development (SDGs) and Agenda 2030, with special respect to the circular economy, climate impact, human rights and democracy.

FMV takes responsibility for sustainable development through active and long-term environmental and sustainability work and through collaboration with our partners and stakeholders. Sustainability aspects are incorporated into our management system and are an integrated part of our business planning and decision-making. By continuously following up and evaluating our operations from an environmental and sustainability perspective, as well as taking the necessary measures to improve, we are constantly progressing in these areas.

FMV is responsible and trustworthy

As government employees, we work on behalf of the citizens and in accordance with the state's core values. In our operations, we manage tax funds at our disposal in an efficient and responsible manner, while at the same time taking environmental and social considerations into account in our work. We, therefore, commit to:

  • create favourable conditions, through continuous competence development and efficient working methods, for our employees to contribute to sustainable development linked to the equipment and services we deliver.
  • carry out test operations with the least possible environmental impact.
  • carry out our business trips and meetings in a climate-efficient manner and promote digital working methods.
  • streamline our energy use while steering towards renewable energy sources.
  • maintain a fair and inclusive workplace where principles of gender equality and equity are taken into account in decision-making.
  • proactively and systematically monitor regulatory development and follow-up regulatory compliance within the environmental and sustainability area.
  • communicate our environmental and sustainability work in a transparent and clear way.

FMV contributes to future-proof materiel supply

Procurement of defence equipment constitutes a major part of FMV's environmental impact. Through sustainable procurement, FMV can contribute to reduced environmental impact, increased security of supply and safeguard social aspects such as decent working conditions. We, therefore, commit to:

  • set and follow up on well-balanced and relevant environmental and social requirements for our suppliers.
  • identify, evaluate, prevent and manage risks in the supply chain regarding environmental and social responsibility.
  • show respect for human rights throughout the materiel supply chain
  • deliver equipment and services to our customers, taking environmental and sustainability aspects into account from a lifecycle perspective.
  • promote the circular economy and the reduction of overexploitation of the earth's resources.
  • work for reduced climate impact from equipment, as well as less dependence on fossil fuels.
  • procure equipment that is safe to use and adapted to the different needs of users' conditions.
